Kirloskar Vasundhara International Film Festival
Protecting the Earth and preserving it for generations to come is at the forefront of our minds. Vasundhara, the international film festival that showcases films with an environmental conscience, is now a movement of its own. With quality films, presentations, talks and allied activities, all of which build the case for activist environmentalism, KVIFF is our attempt to reorient our minds and influence the policies of our country.
Protecting Our Planet for a Limitless Future
We, at Kirloskar Oil Engines, believe responsible environmental practices are essential for a sustainable future. Through our initiatives, we work with communities to promote conservation, responsible waste management and ecosystem restoration.
Our programmes encourage community participation while strengthening environmental resilience.
Waste Management
Cleaner communities begin with responsible waste practices. Through our waste management initiatives, we promote segregation at source, recycling and improved waste handling systems across communities.
Working with local organisations and communities in Kagal, Kolhapur and surrounding villages, we conduct awareness sessions, cleanliness drives and training programmes that encourage households, schools and community groups to separate dry and wet waste. Through these efforts, more than 2,000 tonnes of waste have been segregated and sent for recycling. The initiative has also created income opportunities for waste picker women involved in the collection and processing of recyclable materials.
These programmes have contributed to improved sanitation and community recognition. The Nigave village received the first prize in the Kolhapur district under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, while Kagal’s national ranking improved from 110th to 12th.
Wastewater Management
Responsible water use plays a critical role in sustaining agriculture and protecting natural ecosystems. Through our wastewater management initiatives, we support projects that enable communities to reuse water resources more efficiently.
At the Agriculture College Research Centre in Shenda Park, Kolhapur, we have implemented a project that lifts nearly six lakh litres of water daily from the Jayanti Nala using two pumps. This water is reused for plantation and crop cultivation during the summer season, helping cultivate more than 20 acres of land while reducing wastewater flow into the Panchaganga River.
Through such initiatives, we promote responsible water reuse while supporting agricultural sustainability.
Nature Restoration
Restoring natural ecosystems helps maintain ecological balance and healthier landscapes. Through our nature restoration initiatives, we work with communities, schools and partner organisations to increase green cover and promote environmental awareness.
Tree plantation drives and conservation activities help improve biodiversity, support soil conservation and create greener environments for future generations.
Through sustained community participation, we continue to encourage responsible environmental practices and support ecosystem restoration.
Kirloskar Vasundhara Eco Rangers
Environmental change begins with awareness and participation. Through the Kirloskar Vasundhara Eco Rangers initiative, we encourage young people and communities to take an active role in protecting the environment.
Working with schools and colleges, we organise activities, competitions and awareness programmes that promote sustainable habits and environmental responsibility. Initiatives such as the Eco Bazaar and Green College Clean College competition promote eco-friendly products and sustainable practices. The Eco Bazaar also provides a platform for women’s self-help groups to showcase environmentally friendly products while generating livelihood opportunities.
By engaging young minds and communities, we continue to encourage collective action toward a cleaner and more sustainable future.
